June 7, 1962: "The Michigan Conservation Department built two trout ponds in the area. Robbin's Pond is located two miles south of the Paulding fire tower and the Paulding or Cooper's Pond, which is located about a half-mile south of Paulding on US-45.
The United States Forest Service has built camping sites on both ponds, which are planted with brook trout." (Daily Globe)

July 1, 1932: "The famous Shelldrake blueberry plains in Chippewa County are now being given added protection from forest fires through the relocation of a fire tower. The tower formerly located at Pike Lake in Luce County has been moved three miles east to give a clear view of the berry plains." (The Ironwood Times)
August 3, 1934: "Radio, nemesis of the criminal and household 'necessity' the country over, now turns fire fighter:
In any event, a new epoch in Michigan's fight to preserve its forest land is seen here in the use of portable short-wave radio sets to combat the worst timber fires of recent years.
Two sets were first tried in Alcona County by the State Conservation Department, one of which was established as a base station in the burning area, ten miles from the nearest telephone. A second set was located 23 miles distant at Pike's Peak fire tower.
The sets were in continuous operation transmitting code messages by which field operations, emergency repair work and the movements of the relief crews were directed.
Short-wave radio resulted in complete control of one fire which ravished 7,200 acres.
Today the State Conservation Department approved portable sets as standard equipment." (Chronicle Telegram - Elyria Ohio)
PINORA
December 19, 1936: "Erection of a new fire tower, to be known as the Porcupine tower, has been completed north of Thomaston. This tower, at the southwest edge of the Porcupine mountain area, will make possible observation of the large area between the mountains and the Copper Peak tower. Completion of this tower brings to 20 the number of fire towers in the forest service and state protection systems in the Ottawa forest area." (Daily Globe)

A telephone line is to be built to connect the towers." (Daily Globe)
February 17, 1938: "Approval of a telephone line construction project, for forest fire service, has been received at Camp Norrie, it was learned today. The line will be constructed from the western fire tower, near the Chase farm on the Lake Superior road, to the county park at Little Girl's Point." (Daily Globe)
