April 13, 1929: "Buildings for housing for the fire lookouts were erected at Steuben and Tie Hill towers." (The Escanaba Daily Press)
May 2, 1930: "Eugene Scott and Ernest Edwards began their duties as fire wardens on the Steuben tower Saturday. They discovered a fire at Martha Lake at 3:30 o'clock Sunday and extinguished it." (Escanaba Daily Press)
May 17, 1930: "Eugene Scott, fire warden on the Steuben fire tower, was called to Manistique Tuesday by the sudden death of his aged father." (The Escanaba Daily Press)
May 6, 1958: "Eugene Harvey Scott, 66, of 631 Michigan Ave., Manistique, retired towerman for the U.S. Forest Service, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. He had been ill six days.
He was born May 29, 1891, in Thompson and was a life-long resident of the area. He served as towerman at Steuben for 29 years." (The Escanaba Daily Press)
