April 26, 1911: "Two forest fires were seen by the watchman in the lookout tower to start simultaneously, and for this reason believed to have been of incendiary origin, started near the Chiltonville grammer school yesterday afternoon and burned over 300 acres of valuable timber land worth thousands of dollars.
All the forest fire apparatus was called out and the blaze was diverted towards the commons, where it was finally extinguished. Much cord wood was destroyed." (Fitchburg Sentinel)
