August 8, 1928: "The state game and fish commission announced Tuesday that construction on the new 75-foot steel observation tower for forest-fire wardens to be located on Round Knob, Raleigh county, will start within two weeks. Round Knob is located near the head of Little Beaver river and has an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level.
The tower will be connected by telephone to the Beckley exchange and will be under the supervision of a new district ranger." (Charleston Daily Mail)
August 15, 1937: "E.N. Wristen, foreman, said his crew of 16 men would begin work tomorrow on a telephone line in Richmond district, from the Round Knob lookout tower, near Crow. to Freezeland mountain." (The Raleigh Register)
August 13, 1962: "The lawn and gravel driveway of Round Knob Fire Tower is enclosed by woodland. Round Knob on the Grandview Road in Raleigh County, has been cleaned and put in top shape by ADCU workers, according to Carl Lucas, district forester. The observation point located on top of the mountain provides an escape to peace and quiet for nature lovers. The only disturbance is that of the occasional appearance of wild animals. A panoramic view of more than 20 miles of mountain range can be seen from the tower, which is 60 feet high. Visitors are welcome at the tower under the supervision of the observer during the fire seasons, March to May and October to December. Observer at Round Knob tower is Ray Redden of Crow. The tower is located at an elevation of 3,000 feet." (Post-Herald)
