September 20, 1924: "The fire tower near Sandy Ridge, known as the Summit Tower, is 2300 feet above sea level, the tower being sixty feet in height. From this steel structure can be seen 325,000 acres of forest land in Centre, Cambria and Clearfield counties." (Altoona Tribune)
May 5, 1993: "Sandy Ridge Fire Tower, Rush Township, between 5 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday. Six windows broken in fire tower owned by state Bureau of Forestry. Damage set at $300." (Altoona Mirror)
