September 3, 1932: "In addition to road work, there will be two new lookout towers constructed: one on Bald mountain on the county line between Nelson and Augusta counties.
The Bald mountain structure will be a fifty-foot steel tower with a 7 x 7 observatory on top and with living quarters at the base." (The News Leader)

THE STATION IS THE APEX OF THE ROOF OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER
LOCATED ON BALD MOUNTAIN, A PROMINENT PEAK IN THE BLUE RIDGE
MOUNTAINS, LOCATED ABOUT 8 MILES EAST OF STEELS TAVERN AND
ABOUT 16 MILES SOUTH OF STAUNTON. IT IS A GLASS ENCLOSED
ROOM SUPPORTED BY FOUR LEGS.
