1939: The steel tower was erected using Civilian Conservation Corps labor.
April 2, 1953: "Members of Troop 66 will begin clean-up work and other activity at the Troop cabin at Shawnee fire tower soon. The troop has leased this facility from the U.S. Forest Service and will use the area for overnight camps and for Explorer program. The Explorers plan to include their fathers on a 'jaunt' to the cabin in the near future, to organize 'construction' committees to make repairs around the cabin and garage." (The Athens Messenger)
January 2, 1959: "A fire of undermined origin destroyed a log cabin at the Lost Run fire tower station in Perry County Monday.
The U.S. Forest Service cabin and fire tower are in the Wayne National Forest and are located about two miles south of New Straightsville.
New Straightsville firemen fought the blaze for 1 1/2 hours. The fire was reported by a passing motorist shortly after noon. The tower is manned only during fire seasons." (The Logan Daily News)
