October 1934: The Civilian Conservation Corp erected a 59-foot 3-inch steel tower at a cost of $23.68. The Emergency Conservation Works program funded the cost. (Department of Conservation and Development - 6th Biennial Report 1934-36)
1936-37: "RENDEZVOUS MOUNTAIN STATE PARK: Containing 142 acres, this park was deeded to the State of North Carolina by Judge and Mrs. T. B. Finley of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, in 1926. It is reached by a sand clay road which branches off from U. S. Highway 421 a few miles west of North Wilkesboro. This park is an excellent lookout place and on it has been erected

1952: "Rendezvous Mountain State Park: The main importance of this area as a State Park is as an historic site. It was not actively operated by the Division of State Parks during the biennium but the Division of Forestry maintained and operated a lookout tower and towerman's residence on the area."
