October 17, 1924: "Just west of Sag Harbor. A forest fire observation tower will soon be built to protect woods of East Hampton and Southampton towns. The site chosen is just west of Sag Harbor." (The County Review)
June 28, 1945: "The request of State Conservation Commissioner Perry B. Duryea to have the county provide county-owned property in Sweenyville Park, Brentwood, on which a fire tower is to be erected, was granted by the Board of Supervisors on Monday. Two other towers are to be erected in the county, one of which will be located at the Sunken Meadow State Park in the Town of Smithtown." (The County Review)
