STONINGTON
Delta County - Rapid River District - Hiawatha National Forest
August 16, 1936: "A 100 foot steel lookout tower has just been completed on Hinkin's Hill located one-half mile south of CCC Camp Sandstrum on the Stonington peninsula. The tower, allowing for easy climbing, affords an excellent view of the entire Stonington peninsula.
This improvement, constructed by CCC enrolees from Camp Sandstrum and as addition to the fire detection system on the Hiawatha national forest, will allow for quicker detection of fires in its vicinity and will also aid in detecting fires in the adjacent territory.
The tower is modern in construction, having an inside stairway with railings, giving the towerman or visitor greater ease and safety in climbing." (The Escanaba Daily Press)

April 9, 1938: "At the Stonington Fire Tower site in the Stonington Peninsula a crew has learned the art of log cabin building while erecting a cabin and garage to house the towerman during fire season. These buildings, which are rapidly nearing completion, have been built entirely by C.C.C. labor under the supervision of a Forest Service Foreman.
