April 7, 1938: "The construction of the Lancaster-Northumberland Forest Fire Lookout Tower some time this spring was recently announced by Wolbur C. Hall, chairman of the Virginia Conservation Commission. This 100-foot steel structure which will be erected by the Forest Service, a division of the commission, will be located at Miskimon. This is one of the highest locations in the two counties, being about 130 above sea level.
The tower is being erected at no cost to the counties except $25.00 from each to pay for the cost of the land on which the tower is located. The tower will represent an investment of approximately $1,800." (Kilmarnock-Rappahannock Record)

June 23, 1938: "The completion of the Northumberland-Lancaster Forest Fire Lookout Tower was announced this week by Wilbur C. Hall, Chairman of the Virginia Conservation Commission. The 100 foot steel structure which was erected by the Forest Service, a division of the Commission, is located on Highway Route No. 201 just north of the Miskimon Post Office, only a small plot of land procured from Samuel Haynie. Inasmuch as both Northumberland and Lancaster County will benefit from the services of the tower, each county shared equally in a small appropriation covering the purchase cost of the tower site.
The choice of Miskimon as the location of the tower was due to it being located between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers and because it is the highest point in Lancaster County and the second highest in Northumberland." (Rappahannock Record)
