May 1, 1930: "Fire threatened Wodruff Lodge, the Sippy summer home, Monday. The fire started in a swamp north of the Sippy estate.
C. Griffith, fire warden, sighted smoke from the lookout tower at Tallman. He quickly motored to the fire and enlisted volunteers to fight the blaze.
After a stubborn fight Monday and Monday night the fire was brought under control.

May 2, 1930: "Theron Griffith, who has charge of the Tallman fire tower, is finding plenty of work and excitement in connection with his job.
He has attended 22 fires since April 1 and as many as four in one day.
Last week he obtained only nine hours of sleep. He is as busy on Sundays as on other days and although the work is strenuous, he likes it." (The Luddington Daily News)
