TENNESSEE LOOKOUTS
HIGH SPUR
Hawkins / Greene Counties
March 24, 1968: "Cameron speaks in a stern tone when discussing forest fires--He and his crew of fire-fighters were busy last week, fighting fires on Clinch Mountain north of Rogersville and at Red Hill, south of Surgoinsville.
They will soon be aided by a new lookout tower at High Spur near the Persia Community which is half finished. High Spur itself towers 1,928 feet above sea level; the lookout tower will be 87 feet high. On a clear day you can see--not forever--from Morristown to Kingsport if you're for the smoke curling from a hidden valley, the signal of a wildfire." (Kingsport Times-News)
