July 23, 1921: "Major R.Y. Stuart, deputy commissioner of forestry, has announced the locations of twenty-two additional steel fire towers that will be erected this summer by the Pennsylvania department of forestry. These towers are in addition to the eighteen previously announced. The department plans to build fifty steel fire lookout towers before the fire season opens next fall. One of the towers to be built will be located on Scrub Oak mountain." (The Times-Tribune)
November 24, 1921: "The largest number of visitors recorded at any one tower last month was 813, who registered at the Scrub Oak Mountain Tower in the Lackawanna State Forest." (McKean Democrat)

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1959 (CGS) THE STATION IS LOCATED ON A MOUNTAIN, NEAR THE STATE FOREST SERVICE LOOKOUT TOWER, ABOUT 2.5 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF SCRANTON, ABOUT 4.5 MILES NORTHWEST OF MOSCOW AND ABOUT 2.5 MILES WEST-NORTHWEST OF ELMHURST.
TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE JUNCTION OF U.S. HIGHWAY 11, STATE HIGHWAY 307, THE INTERSECTION OF CROWN AVENUE AND MOOSIC STREET IN THE EASTERN SECTION OF SCRANTON, GO SOUTHEAST ON STATE HIGHWAY 307 AND MOOSIC STREET FOR 1.64 MILES TO A LAKE ON THE RIGHT, SOUTH, SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, A SIDE ROAD AND SIGN LAKE SCRANTON ON THE LEFT, NORTH, SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. TURN LEFT AS PER SIGN LAKE SCRANTON AND GO NORTH ON A MACADAM ROAD FOR 0.40 MILE TO A CROSSROAD. TURN RIGHT AND GO EAST AND SOUTHEAST ON A MACADAM ROAD FOR 1.75 MILES TO A SECOND, LOCKED, IRON GATE ON THE RIGHT, SOUTH, SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THIS DATE THE KEY FOR THE GATE WAS OBTAINED FROM MR WILLIAM HODGE AT THE SCRANTON SPRINGBROOK WATER SERVICE CO., JEFFERSON AVENUE, ACROSS FROM THE D AND L RAILROAD STATION IN SCRANTON. TURN RIGHT PASS THROUGH THE GATE AND GO SOUTH-SOUTHEAST ON A MACADAM AND GRAVEL ROAD FOR 1.7 MILE TO TOP OF MOUNTAIN, LOOKOUT TOWER AND STATION.
THE SCRANTON, SCRUB OAK LOOKOUT TOWER IS A 4-LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE. THE LEGS ARE PAINTED GREY. THE STRUCTURE HAS A GLASS ENCLOSED CAB ON TOP, PAINTED ORANGE WITH A BLACK CONICAL SHAPED ROOF. THE OVERALL HEIGHT OF THE STRUCTURE IS APPROXIMATELY 64 FEET. THE CENTER OF THE TOWER WAS MEASURED TO AND INTERSECTED.
