December 15, 1929: "Since the fire tower was constructed at the Rockhouse this summer hundreds of visitors have climbed to the observation room at its top to view the surrounding territory." (The Athens Messenger)
March 1930: "Ohio has three new 65-foot steel fire towers ready for operation--one on Rock House State Park, Hocking County." (Forest Worker)
May 17, 1931: "Luther Carr, fire guard, was roofing a building near the fire tower when he detected smoke coming from south of the cave. A survey placed the fire in a hollow some miles away. Equipment was loaded into two machines and the rangers, Harold Chambers, extension agent, and a Messenger representative started over a by-road marked with deep ruts which at points made the highway almost impassable.
The blaze was gaining headway on the edge of a strip of woodland that was carpeted with leaves. Reaching a point some distance in front of the fire, rangers commenced raking a path through the leaves where they started a back fire. The fire appeared to have started from some brush piles along the creek bank." (The Athens Messenger)
October 27, 1934: "At Rock House, Ira Oldfield has been selected towerman." (Chillicothe Gazette)
