October 7, 1909: "At a conference today of the State fire superintendents with Commissioner Whipple of the State forest, fish and game department, it was decided to supplement the six fire observation stations established in the Adirondacks and three in the Catskills by constructing such a lookout at Cat Mountain, south of Cranberry Lake, in St. Lawrence County" (Buffalo Courier)
July 1910: A lookout was established atop a 37 foot tower at a cost of $698.96. (Sixteenth Annual Report of the Forest, Fish and Game Commission - 1910)
1917: A 47-foot steel tower was erected. (7th Annual Report of the Conservation Commission)
April 23, 1950: "Ed Akey of Kanakena will be back on Cat Mountain." (Syracuse Herald Journal)
April 18, 1967: "Harry E. Watson, 67, of Harrisville, a fire ranger at Cat Mountain fire tower, Cranberry Lake, died this morning at 4:30 in the House of Good Samaritan, Watertown, where he had been a patient 12 days.
