CASTILE HILL
.
August 9, 1922: "With the erection of the fire tower on Castile hill last week, the work of building three fire towers in the Ninth Fire district of Michigan was completed. The district now has five towers and is probably better equipped in this respect than any other district of the state." (Ironwood Daily Globe)
May 2, 1927: "With the return of W. A. James from a business trip to Iron Mountain, the fire tower located on the Castile hill will go into commission tomorrow and remain so until Nov. 1 at least, or until such time next fall as all danger from forest fire will have been passed.
Deputy Warden Lundgren, of Ewen, is expected in the city some time this week, and he will probably announce his appointments for the remaining towers in the district. He will also announce his list of key men and fire bosses for the summer." (Ironwood Daily Globe)
