June 18, 1927: "A new fire tower is to be erected on the hills northwest of Wakefield to replace the tower near the Castile location, according to plans of the state conservation department. The present fire tower will be abandoned.
The new tower will be more centrally located than the present look-out station and will be more than 100 feet high. It will be equipped with telephone and all conveniences needed by the watchmen, who will spend all of their time in the tower during the season of forest fire danger." (The Wakefield News)

October 24, 1927: "The state fire tower located on the hill northwest of the city was closed for the season last week. The weather forecasting instruments recently erected there by the government have been taken down and stored for the winter. W.A. James who was in charge of the tower will not resume his duties until next spring." (Daily Globe)
May 12, 1928: "J. J. Rummel has been given the temporary appointment of towerman at the state fire tower located northwest of this city in Wakefield township, to succeed John Trudgeon, who resigned. At the present time there are three applicants for the position but no permanent appointment will be made until the names of the applicants have been submitted to the state department of conservation." May 16, 1928: "J. J. Rummel, who last week was appointed temporary towerman on the fire tower northwest of the city in Wakefield township, in place of John Trudgeon, resigned, this week received a permanent appointment for the position. He will remain on duty at this tower until Nov. 1." (Daily Globe)
