1935: A 45-foot Blaw-Knox steel tower with a 7 x 7 cab was erected by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Also the living quarters and surrounding wall were constructed from native rock.
September 11, 1950: "The road to the Man Mountain tower, in the northern part of Fayette County has been completed. The tower is now equipped with electricity." (Raleigh Register)
March 6, 1961: "Several men will be employed next week under Governor Barron's Crash Program, at Mann Mountain fire tower in Fayette County, according to Carl Lucas, district forester.
Their work, Lucas said, will be improvement of the road to the tower and maintenance on the tower and observer's cabin. The work will be under the supervision of County Forester E. K. Bibb.
Within the next two weeks, additional men will be employed for similar work at Round Knob and Tams Mountain fire towers in Raleigh County under the supervision of Forester Weir Covey." (Raleigh Register)
