HOG MOUNTAIN
Georgia - Walton County - Georgia Forestry Commission
July 30, 1952: "Dedication exercises for Walton County's fire tower atop Hog Mountain will be held at 10:00 o'clock Friday morning, August 1, at the mountain.
Guest speaker for the occasion will be H.E. Ruark, assistant director in charge of fire control of the Georgia Forestry Commission.
At 11:00 a.m. an interesting demonstration of the County's Forestry Unit tractor will be given by Forester Joe McGunagle.
The new John Deere Model MC crawler-type tractor is equipped with a Sisco fire suppression-type plow. With the addition of this new machinery, the Forestry Unit will be able to render better service to Walton County prople in case of forest fire.
The tower is a 100-foot Texas oil derrick, converted into a fire lookout tower. It is furnished with a two-way radio to contact the trucks in reporting fires.
Signs will be erected on Highway 78 east, giving directions as to the location of the tower." (The Walton Tribune)
