February 1937: "A Steel Lookout Tower, 100 feet high, has been constructed near the Court House at Cumberland, Virginia. Its purpose is to help detect and locate forest fires and it enables the Forestry Service to get to them quickly." (Camp Messenger - CCC, Company 2354)
STATION DESCRIPTION
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1941 (GWL)
THIS IS AN INTERSECTION STATION AND IS THE FINIAL ON TOP OF THE FOREST FIRE LOOKOUT TOWER OF THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION. THE TOWER IS A 4-LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE ABOUT 85 FEET HIGH. IT IS IN THE TOWN OF CUMBERLAND COURTHOUSE.
