PLEASANT HILL

July 19, 1935: "After a delay of nearly a year, the Department of Forestry has finally acquired a ten acre tract of land near Pleasant Hill in Cecil County. The erection of a new forest fire lookout tower will immediately be started on this tract and it is hoped that the tower will be in readiness for the fall fire season." (The Midland Journal)
August 16, 1935: "A force of men from the relief rolls are engaged in erecting a fire observation tower near Pleasant Hill under the direction of District Fire Warden John M. Bayles. The tower will be 100 feet in height and will give the lookout man a view of the entire surrounding country." (The Midland Journal)
September 6, 1935: "Although construction is now in progress on the new fire tower on ten acres of land recently purchased by the State Department of Forestry from the duPont interest, near Pleasant Hill, a new application has been filed with the WPA for construction of another tower. The cost would be $5884.
The tower under construction is located on the road from Pleasant Hill to Mechanics Valley." (The Midland Journal)
September 20, 1935: "Sponsored by State Department of Forestry, erection of fire tower and clearing of 10 acres track for public park at Pleasant Hill; total cost $5,484, of which amount the Federal Government would furnish $2,499.93, and sponsor $2,984.07, giving 86 man months employment."
