August 13, 1951: "Major L. Brandon, Dawson Springs, Kentucky forestry division ranger stationed at Dawson Springs, announced today that the department has executed a 99-year lease with Holman Allinder, Madisonville, for construction of a lookout tower near Concord church, three and six tenths miles north of Manitou.
The fifty-foot high steel tower is expected to be completed and ready for use in early November. It will be used to discover forest fires.
The tower will be the third for the state fotestry division in Hopkins county and will give the county complete protection in locating forest fires, Major Brandson said. Other towers in operation are in the Brown Meadow lake section near Earlington and near Beulah." (The Messenger)
