November 22, 1935: "Charles F. Powell, of Aiken has been elected to take charge of the Graniteville Fire Tower, and will assume his duties as of December 1st. Mr. and Mrs. Powell and family will move to the tower next week." (Aiken Standard and Review)
August 9, 1939: "One forest fire caused by lightning was reported in Aiken County during the week, reports the Aiken District office of the South Carolina State Forest Service.
W.W. New, towerman at the Graniteville located the lightning strike from his tower. Mr. Ethridge Gunter, County Fire Warden, was dispatched to investigate the strike and found fire already spreading from the tree. The fire was brought promptly under control." (Aiken Standard and Review)
October 18, 1939: "The appointment of a Fire Warden and a Towerman for the Graniteville section of Aiken County, has been announced by County Ranger L.P. Joyner of the Aiken County Forest Protective Association.
Willie New, formerly Towerman at Graniteville Tower, has been appointed County Fire Warden to replace E.S. Gunter who resigned to take a job with the Graniteville Manufacturing Company.
Leroy Hutchinson, a native of the Talatha section of Aiken County, has been appointed Towerman at the Graniteville Fire Tower to replace Mr. New." (Aiken Standard and Review)
