ELMORE MOUNTAIN

1938-40: "A steel lookout tower 45 feet, 9 inches in height has been built on Elmore Mountain by the New England Forest Emergency funds, and a cabin for the lookout is being built near the top of the mountain by the CCC. A telephone line has been built from the road near the bathhouse to the lookout tower." (Report, Department of Conservation and Development, term ending June 30, 1940)
1949 - 50: "Painted interior of cabin. Changed over telephone to dial system and installed section of new telephone line between cabin and tower." (Biennial Report of the Vermont Forest Service)
1951 - 52: "Cabin stained. Stair treads painted." (Biennial Report of the Vermont Forest Service)
April 17, 1952: "Frank Burbank of Albany has been in town working on the telephone line to the fire tower on Mount Elmore." (The Barre Daily Times)
1953 - 54: "Painted tower cab outside and inside. Relocated one-half mile of telephone line. Installed extra telephone." (Biennial Report of the Vermont Forest Service)
1955 - 56: "One-half mile of telephone line was rebuilt." (Biennial Report of the Vermont Forest Service)
1957 - 58: "The entire telephone line was rebuilt including new wire. New type hangers were installed which combined the slack wire construction needed for a tree line with the leakage resistance of a pole line. The cabin was reroofed with cedar shingles." April 24, 1958: "Collins Parker has gone to Elmore. He is employed at the lookout tower on Elmore Mountain." (The Burlington Free Press)
