February 20, 1930: "A large grass fire was extinguished yesterday afternoon shortly after it had reached the woods by Fire Warden F.J. Etterling and Robert Bradbury near Jackson Pike a little way beyond Minford. Mr. Bradford is alleged to have started the fire to burn some broom sedge but the fire is said to have escaped from his control and was traveling fast. It is reported to have covered about 20 1/2 acres of grass and 3 1/2 acres of woods.
This is the first fire of the season to be discovered from the fire lookout tower which was erected last October on Woods Ridge near Niner Hill. This tower has recently been equipped with telephone service through the Sciotoville exchange." (Plymouth Daily Times)
