February 15, 1955: "Elmer Cady, 65, of Maryland, for several years fire watcher during the forest fire season in the Hooker Hill tower in Maryland, suffered a cut scalp about 1:15 p.m. yesterday when his car skidded while en route to Oneonta on Route 7 two miles east of the city, slid up the bank and crashed into a telephone pole. RIGHT AND GO NORTH ON DOG HILL ROAD FOR 0.9 KM (0.55 MI) TO A FORK
TAKE THE RIGHT FORK AND CONTINUE NORTH ON DOG HILL ROAD FOR 6.0 KM
(3.70 MI) TO A TRACK ROAD ON THE RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTHEAST
UPHILL FOR 0.5 KM (0.30 MI) TO THE TOP OF THE HILL AND THE STATION.
THE STATION IS A STANDARD NGS DISK STAMPED--HOOKER 2 1942 1982--,
CEMENTED IN A DRILL HOLE IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF A 5 BY 5 FOOT (1.5
M) CONCRETE PLATFROM THAT PROJECTS 15 CM (6 INCHES). IT IS AT THE
CENTER OF THE 4 CONCRETE FOOTINGS FOR A LOOKOUT TOWER THAT HAS BEEN
TORN DOWN.
