1936: The 40-foot high stone tower topped with a 14 x 14 cab was built by the WPA (Works Progress Administration)
June 8, 1938: "Fifty-four foot fire control tower atop Mount Chenocetah, in the heart of a 41,000-acre development project, which was dedicated Tuesday by Governor Rivers. The tower provides a lookout from which four states can be seen and from which forest rangers can detect the start of fires throughout the area." (The Atlanta Journal)
