August 15, 1934: "Associate State Forester B. F. Leete announced today that a new forestry tower has been erected at McCune Ridge, Jackson County, in furtherance of the new plan of the department of forestry to install fire towers throughout the forests of Southern Ohio at 15 mile intervals.
The new tower is 20 feet higher than the one on the Scioto trail and is coated with an aluminum finish. It will be occupied during the spring and fall by a fire warden. The project was completed with funds furnished by the federal government, and labor from the CCC camps under the supervision of Henry B. Sherman." (Chillicothe Gazette)
