RABUN BALD
Georgia - Nantahala National Forest
November 13, 1922: "The forest service has just completed the construction of an interesting lookout tower on the extreme summit, to be used in locating forest fires. It consists of a fourteen-foot tower with a real glass house surmounting. Though the house itself cannot be left open to visitors at all times, a platform 4 feet wide runs entirely around the house, enabling one to get the view in all directions, unincumbered by tree-tops."
