November 16, 1955: "Two teen-aged Tyrone Area High School boys have admitted committing acts of vandalism in recent weeks at the Tyrone fire tower cabin, located in Huntingdon county.
Fire inspector Neal Carstetter reported today that the boys whose names are being withheld because of their age, confessed to breaking into the cabin on at least one occasion and to damaging the property to a considerable extent.
According to Carstetter, the cabin has been broken into several times. Major damage, he said, was inflicted last summer, when windows were broken and logs pushed out from wall jointures.
Repairs and the finishing touches of 'winterizing' the cabin were completed Oct. 20. On November 3, the vandals built a fire on the cabin's porch, and broke down a heavy oak door.
On neither occasion was anything stolen from the selection of equipment and supplies in the cabin. It was this fact, coupled with the carving of initials in various places about the premises, that led Carstetter to believe the persons involved were no adults." (Tyrone Daily Herald)
October 26, 1956: "Vandals have caused several hundred dollars damage to the fire tower and cabin on Bald Eagle mountain, north of Tyrone, district forestry officials reported this week.
Neal Carstetter, district inspector, said damage included broken windows, hatchet slashes in tower trap door, dumping fire-fighting tools and equipment into cistern, theft of door latches and breaking of lamps.
Mr. Carstetter said the almost exact hour of the incident took place has been determined and the perpetrators face heavy penalties when caught." (The Altoona Mirror)
