November 15, 1916: "Leon C. Irish of Haynesville, chief warden for the southern Aroostook territory, writes the department as follows:
'We have built a telephone line to Wytopitlock lake, a distance of about two miles, which is of great importance to our fire department. We have also repaired the telephone wire which runs to the fire camp and it is now in fine condition. The line on Mount Chase is in bad condition now and I think that in the spring it should all over new. And from the instruction I received from Mr. Murphy, the United States man, a floor and windows should be placed in the lookout house. He also recommended the moving of the house a little distance to the northwest. With the repairing of Mount Chase and a few minor places the district I am in will be in good condition for the coming season.' " (The Bangor Daily News)
