PENNSYLVANIA LOOKOUTS
ELSTIE
Cambria County
September 20, 1930: "Near the old village of Elistie, in Gallitzin township, work was started this week on excavating for the foundations of the new tower recently authorized by the department. The tower, 80 feet in height, will stand at an elevation of nearly 2500 feet above sea level. It will be located a short distance from the Blair county line, near the Tunnelhill-Coupon road.
Authorization of the Elstie tower--ninth in the district--came as a welcome surprise to the forestry men who felt that the heavy expenditures occasioned by the disastrous fire season during the late summer would prevent further appropriation for tower construction. District Forester Shirey said yesterday that the additional tower will be of inestimable value in the fire-fighting work next year." (The Indiana Gazette)

April 15, 1939: "D. Angelis of Dysart has been named observer at Elstie tower near Coupon. He has been a fire warden for a number of years." (Altoona Mirror)
