BIG SHINNEY
Lackawanna County
April 4, 1951: "Big Shinney Tower, operated by Lackawanna Forestry District in Springbrook Twp. for many years, yesterday was stricken from the District's official list of fire towers.
M. M. Gordon, District forester, said the tower, which was blown over during a heavy windstorm last year, will be replaced by a new tower situated near Dupont.
Decision to locate the new tower at Tark Hill on the Suscon Rd. about five miles from Dupont, was the result of a survey by the Department of Forests which showed better coverage of the area involved would result from the new location." (The Scranton Tribune)
