HOUSTON
Indiana - Jackson County - Pleasant Run Ranger District - Hoosier National Forest
November 20, 1935: "The first land to be purchased in Jackson county by the federal government as a part of the Pleasant Run unit of the Hoosier National Forest was transferred by County Auditor D.W. Thompson and the deed recorded by County Recorder Lillian L. Lutes here Monday. This land was owned by Mr. and Mrs. Reese O. Lutes, of Bloomington, and consists of forty acres in Salt Creek township. It is described as the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of section 27, township seven north, range three east, and is located near the top of Houston hill. While this is not the highest point on the Houston hill, part of it serves as an excellent lookout point and it is said that the Forest service will erect a fire tower on it." (Jackson County Banner)
