August 1921: "Maj. R.Y. Stuart, Deputy Commissioner of Forestry, has announced that 25 sites have been definitely fixed for forest fore observation towers that will be erected by the Department of Forestry this summer. Orders for 50 towers have been placed with the manufacturers. One of the first 18 towers will be put up at Blue Mountain.." (Forest Leaves, Vol. 18)
November 25, 1921: "One hundred persons have visited the new steel forest fire observation towers that have been erected by the Department of Forestry in the Rothrock State Forest. Frequently fifty persons inspected the Blue Mountain observation tower, near McVeytown." (Mount Union Times)
March 6, 1926: "Blue Mountain Forest Fire Observation Tower is a 60 foot steel tower which was built in 1921 by the Department of Forests and Waters. This look-out is upon state forest lands at the summit of Blue or Licking Creek Mountain. The horseback mail route from McVeytown and Mattawana, Mifflin County to Blacklog, Juanita County, crosses the mountain near the tower." (Daily News)
