October 16, 1959: "A 15-year-old boy shot and fatally wounded his father to halt the pistol whipping of his mother, Sheriff J.B. Thomas said.
The shooting occurred at the Wacissa fire watch station of the Florida Forest Service Wednesday night. Corley J. Rose, 37, died at a Tallahassee hospital.
The boy, Armon Rose, was held without charge for a preliminary hearing.
Mrs. Rose, suffering from head wounds and shock, was treated at the hospital, Thomas said.
Rose and his wife quarreled, the sheriff said. The husband apparently chased Mrs. Rose into the front yard of the house they occupied at the fire tower and was beating her with a pistol while the couple's five children looked on." (The News-Courier – S. Carolina)
