NEW YORK LOOKOUTS
OAKDALE
Suffolk County
April 7, 1922: "Fire Warden Wohlfarth and Fire Ranger Dare were present and asked the Board of Supervisors to authorize the removal of a tower about 90 feet high, which now stands upon the property of the South Side Sportsman Club at Oakdale, and which the club has offered to donate to the town. This request was endorsed by assistant Superintendent of Forests Howard of the State Conservation Commission, who expressed the opinion that the tower would be very valuable in helping the fire wardens to locate and deal with incipient fires. Fire Warden Wohlfarth was asked to get bids for the cost of removal of the tower to a desirable point if vantage on Wohlfarth's property near Central Islip. Superintendent Howard declared that the Town of Islip was far ahead of most of the towns of the State in the matter of forest fire prevention and urged that the good work be continued."
