December 1940: "Jr. Foreman Jennings and his work section have attempted the task of constructing a fire tower on the peak of Pine Knob, Stone Mountain. It was no easy task to carry the heavy timber for this tower up the mountain for 1.6 miles and the entire crew deserves much praise for carrying the material up the mountain without an accident. 'When you tote a 94 lb. bag of cement up to the top and make three trips, you won't need any one to rock you to sleep at night.' says Lester Parsons, crew member, and we agree with him. 'Watch your step and learn how to lift' is the pass-word of this crew. No place for insecure footing on this job because you find yourself in the middle of Stone Creek."
