January 10, 1963: "The State Forestry Service fire tower will soon go up on a 400-foot-square lot on Edwards Rd., deeded to the state agency by the St. Lucie County Commissioners.
Preparation of the site will begin right away, State Forester Mark Moorman told the commission Wednesday, and as soon as it is ready the tower, now on hand, will go up.
Later, the service plans to build two residences on the lot adjacent to the county barn location on Oleander Ave. in addition to the tower, shop and office space will be built on the land now.
The Forestry Service is in the second year of its fire prevention, reporting and fighting service in St. Lucie County, and its budget for the current year provides $15,000 for buildings in the county." (The News Tribune)
