1920-21: "A steel tower has been erected and opened at Blue Anchor, Camden County, making a total of nine active lookouts now in operation." (Department of Conservation and Development Annual Report - 1920-21)
July 11, 1940: "Hugh Keenan is in charge at Blue Anchor tower, where he has been for 20 years. There are 19 such lookout towers in the State.
Keenan has a two-way radio, telephone, maps, instruments to determine wind velocity and its direction, the temperature and its humidity, and a sextant which is used to find the exact location of a fire. On locating a fire within his territory, Keenan immediately notifies the nearest district warden." (Courier-Post)
