April 27, 1923: "The Forestry Department today specially notified Governor Pinchot of the death of Anthony Karish, Jr., fourteen years old, last Saturday while fighting a forest fire near the Humboldt Fire Tower, near Shellton, Schuykill County. The Governor at once sent a letter of sympathy to the boy's father." (Daily News)
September 2, 1924: "State Foresters are trying to find out who is using the Humboldt forest fire tower as a dog pen. Twice dogs have been found in the cabin with food and water." (Harrisburg Telegraph)
November 30, 1937: "Peter Polega, of Pine street, has received his amateur radio operator's license, and has been stationed to the Humboldt tower, where he will be on the lookout for forest fires." (The Plain Speaker)
