November 28, 1957: "An address by State Forester Guyton DeLoach of Macon, a barbecue, a full scale display of Georgia Forestry Commission equipment of all types and a three city parade will highlight the dedication of the new Taliaferro County fire tower Dec. 4.
GFC Tenth District Forester George Collier of Washington said the day's festivities will open on the morning of the fourth with a parade of floats, Forestry Commission fire fighting equipment and the bands from Greene and Taliaferro County High Schools through Greensboro, Union Point and Crawfordsville.
The dedication and address by DeLoach will be held at 1 p.m. at the tower site which is four miles northeast of Crawfordsville. The barbecue will follow the talk. Signs will be displayed on all roads leading to the tower.
Taliaferro County went under Commission fire protection July 1. The county is protected by the Greene County Forestry Unit, with H.E. Moore of Greensboro, ranger. The tower provides visibility over all the county. Towers in adjoining counties also provide protection." (The Sparta Ishmaelite)
