October 21, 1936: "A new fire tower is to be erected by CCC men near Walsh between Seney and Shingleton this fall. Towermen in the Seney area will be able to make cross-shots to this tower when visibility is poor and thus determine the location of fires more accurately." (Pinconning Journal and Bay County News)
December 12, 1936: "Seney -- The permanent haze which hovers over the Seney marsh area won't be bothering state fire towermen when they try to sight forest fires next year. A new fire tower is to be erected by CCC men near Walsh between Seney and Shingleton this fall. Towermen in the Seney area will be able to make cross shots to this tower when visibility is poor and thus determine the location of fires more accurately." (The Escanaba Daily Press)
June 7, 1937: "The Michigan Emergency Conservation Works program has accounted for varied and useful improvements in the Upper Peninsula during the past few weeks according to news releases made today.
The new fire tower located on M-28 west of Walsh, has been completed according tp project supervisor Harold V. Borgerson. The new structure is of modern steel design and stands 100 feet high." (Daily Globe)
1937-38: “The major accomplishments are: Cooperating in the expansion and improvement of the Forest Fire Divisions detection system. The CCC has built eight new fire towers and structurally repaired 63 of the present towers.” One of the new towers is located at the Walsh site. & “To provide living quarters for forest fire towermen, cabins will be built at the Paradise East Tower, the Grass Lake Tower, and the Walsh Tower. Cabins will be of log construction, standard 20 foot by 26 foot size.” (Ninth Biennial Report, The Department of Conservation)
