PENNSYLVANIA LOOKOUTS
COVE MOUNTAIN
Franklin County
1913: A tree observation post established 38 feet above the ground.
January 25, 1923: "This newspaper will penetrate the depths of Fulton county to-morrow before noon; and if a copy reaches the eye of Dr. Lawrence Seylar in McConnellsburg we ask him to drop us a line, telling what a photograph from the top of Cove Mountain will look like. Also the Forester in McConnellsburg: Is it possible to reach the Cove fire tower just now?" (Harrisburg Telegraph)
January 31, 1923: "M.H.J. Byers, the forester, says you can get to the fire tower on Cove Mountain, but it will be through a foot of crusted snow -- hard going. Photography - is out of the question on Cove just now, as the mountains and valleys are covered with fog or haze. I will wigwag you when conditions are right, later on. There is no chance now, unless it should turn stone-cold and dry; and even then the weather is not 'fitten' for pictures. L.W.S., McConnellsburg." (Harrisburg Telegraph)
