September 16, 1940: "The improvement of the lookout tower site at Vicksburg is well advanced during the year." (Panama City News-Herald)
January 1, 1948: "The Vickburg tower, located two miles north of Southport, also is 100 feet high and made of wood." (Panama City News-Herald)
January 4, 1951: "Florida Forest rangers today are investigating several woods fires that burned hundreds of acres of valuable woodlands near Vicksburg fire tower on the Chipley highway last night, the officers reported today.
Officials of the Bay county station located on West 15th street, said there was evidence that the fires were deliberately set. Rangers battled the blaze for several hours before rainfall in the area helped extinguish the fires, the official reported." (Panama City News-Herald)
May 6, 1963: "Four woods fires Sunday burned approximately 75 acres of timber two miles east of Southport near the Vicksburg Fire Tower, according to reports from the Florida Forest Service (FFS).
Four tractor crews worked five hours before the fire was brought under control. The fires were completely out this morning, according to the FFS.
The burned land was owned by the Hunt Oil Co. and Ed Tiller." (Panama City Herald)
