October 25, 1933: "A steel fire tower, 80 feet in height, is to be erected on the Jasper-Pulaski game preserve, it has been announced by Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner of the state department of conservation.
The tower is one of six assigned to Indiana by the forestry division of the federal government. Five of the towers are 80 feet structure with an enclosed platform at the top, while one tower is 100 feet. Each of the towers will be connected with the nearest exchange by telephone that warning of any fire may be communicated to the proper authorities immediately.
All materials for the tower and the telephone lines are being provided by the government, while the erection of the towers and the stringing of the telephone lines will be in charge of Civilian Conservation Corps workers." (The Culver Citizen)
