July 21, 1932: "L'Anse Township and the Conservation Department are constructing a new road to the fire tower near Arvon. The road will start at Bishop's farm and will run east for eight miles. It will open a good country and will open a good country and will assist the department in controlling fires in a larger area." (L'Anse Sentinel)
August 18, 1932: "The road to the Arvon fire tower which is being constructed by the Conservation Department in L'Anse and Arvon townships, is progressing rapidly. The road starts at Bishop's farm near L'Anse and runs due east. Part of the old narrow gauge railroad bed is being used as far as the O'Toole camp. About three of the nine miles have been completed. With favorable weather the Conservation Department expects to complete the road this fall.
This highway will be of great importance to the department as a large tract of timber and a considerable area of cutover land may be reached by means or it. The road crosses several streams which will be valuable for use in case of fire. A large area of good land will be made available for farming purposes." (L'Anse Sentinel)
December 31, 1962: "Guess how high Michigan is? If you said 1,980 feet, you would be exactly right.
The place closest to the clouds in the state is a nameless hill 3 1/2 miles south of the Baraga County's Arvon fire tower.
A new U S geological survey made the finding over the weekend." (The Holland Evening Sentinel)
