January 1935: The Civilian Conservation Corps erected a 99-foot 9-inch steel tower with a 2-room ground cabin for a cost of $1,531.97. The funding for the project was through the Emergency Conservation Works program. (Department of Conservation and Development - 6th Biennial Report 1934-36)
April 19, 1937: "A state-operated tower near the area has been supplemented by a 100-foot steel tower put by the Resettlement Administration, making it possible to spot any fire on the 30,000-acre project immediately. The project forester has developed a well-equipped force of trained men for prevention and suppression of fires and 40 miles of roads and tract trails have been constructed for quick access to all parts of the area."
