PENNSYLVANIA LOOKOUTS
BEAR MOUNTAIN
Carbon County
May 11, 1925: "The lookout tower in Penn Forest township, Carbon county, is to be moved to the top of Bear Mountain, above Mauch Chunk." (The Plain Speaker)
July 24, 1925: "Hugh C. Lott, assistant forester, is in East Mauch Chunk supervising the erection of a steel lookout tower for the district. This tower which rises to an altitude of 60 feet, formerly stood at Christman's about three miles farther northeast from its present site, which is up on top of a mountain locally known as Jew's Head. It has been removed to the newer site because the latter commands a wider and more clear view of the surrounding landscape. It will be ready early next week." (Pottsville Republican)
